EddNets
TFG member Edd Burrell's life is the inspiration
for Edd Nets
In 2004/5 Edd developed brain cancer and eventually died.
Many will remember the e-mail bulletins and the huge attendance at
Edd's funeral in Feb 2005.
Edd's music, worship leading, humour and sense of direction (getting
lost in the Annan Court woods!) along with his faith and big grin
will remain part of his legacy to us in TFG. There is another legacy
too, set up at Christmas 2006, which gives thanks for Edd in a way that
is life-giving to other young people in Northern Mozambique - one of
the most remote regions on earth where one in 3 children under 5 die of
malaria each year.
Eddnets is a programme to distribute the new Long Life Insecticide
Treated Nets that could greatly reduce this terrible loss of young
life. The bed nets cost so little - £5 - and offer so much hope.
Eddnets is operated through ALMA (London's link with Angola and
Mozambique www.almalink.org). So far it has raised almost £5000 to
* fund a net distribution outreach on a village by village basis
* work with the church and Mothers' Union networks to
distribute nets
* give nets to every family irrespective of faith
status
The vision is, village by village, year by year in line with the best
malaria prevention practice (as advised by the London School of Hygiene
and Tropical Medicine and the Coalition Against Malaria) to reduce the
overall level of malaria in these communities with 100% bednet usage.
Eddnets is not a one off initiative but a mustard seed one - that could
transform the lives of communities far from Ealing for the price of a
couple of cappuccinos.
